Wine enthusiasts and professionals in Metro Manila have a rare opportunity to earn advanced wine certification from UK-based Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) this March 19-23, 2018 at Enderun Colleges, through award-winning wine specialist Jorge Orte Tudela DipWSET.
Jorge Orte Tudela DipWSET is a WSET Certified Educator and is currently the Export Manager and Wine Educator at Grape Bebop. Mr. Tudela is also a Certified Educator of sherry and cava by the Consejo Regulador Jerez-Xeres-Sherry and Institut del Cava respectively. Besides teaching, Mr. Tudela also travels extensively, serving as a judge in notable wine challenges such as the International Wine Challenge, International Wine & Spirits Competition, Premios Baco, Premis Vinari, and others.

Enderun Colleges has been an Approved Programme Provider (APP) of WSET since 2014 but this March marks the first time that it is offering the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines. As the only college in the Philippines that has WSET embedded in its hospitality curriculum, and having educated close to 300 wine enthusiasts and professionals, the wine educators at Enderun felt that the time was right to offer the demanding course. “As consumer sophistication continues to rise, this exerts pressure on professionals to keep pace. Embarking on certification signals to the industry that one is serious.”, says Bel S. Castro, Enderun’s Asst. Dean of Hospitality Management. “After close to 4 years of delivering the various WSET courses, this WSET Level 3 in Wines offering is in direct reaction to the growing demand in the market for more. In previous years, aspiring WSET students had to fly to London, HK, or Singapore to get certified. This course offering brings the opportunity closer to home.”

On the importance of WSET certification, Tudela explains, “WSET Level 3 Award in Wines is a qualification that builds a comprehensive knowledge base about the most important wine styles and regions of the world, and the natural and human reasons behind their diversity”. Having completed the 2 year WSET Diploma with top marks and currently taking his Master of Wine, Tudela recalls, “WSET Level 3 Award in Wines was a pivotal point in my life, turning me into a real wine professional after many years as a wine lover and enthusiast.”

Enderun’s lead wine educator, sommelier and restaurateur, Paolo Nesi, echoes Tudela’s sentiments, “My love for the trade (WInes and Spirits) is so big and my  curiosity so vast that is not just enough to drink them. I am fascinated by the different varieties, styles, how the vigneron copes with adverse weather conditions, how they market them and how the consumer perceives them. After becoming a Sommelier, I found that the mere understanding of what is in the glass was not enough. I wanted to know why what is in the glass tastes and smelled like that”.

The WSET Level 3 Award in Wines is an advanced level of qualification for professionals, but also has global appeal to nonprofessional connoisseurs. The registration deadline for the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines is on March 7, 2018. Successful completion of the course grants participants a WSET certificate and a lapel pin, along with the privilege to use the associated WSET-certified logo.

In addition to the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines course, Mr. Tudela will also be conducting a Sherry Masterclass from 10AM to 12NN, as well as a Cava Masterclass from 5PM to 7PM, on March 24 at Enderun Colleges. Both classes have limited seating and will focus on the finer points of the wines with the same thoroughness and precision as the WSET courses. For reservations and inquiries regarding these masterclasses, contact Rio Pamuspusan through rio.pamuspusan@enderuncolleges.com, or call +63 2 856 5000 local 505/+63 917 620 4610.
